"Walking into the pregnancy of our first baby brought up a lot of questions. I knew right away that for me personally, an unmedicated birth was the way I needed to bring this baby into the world. Months into pregnancy, it suddenly hit me that I was walking into birth with no idea of what to expect & due to a very busy life season, we would have no time for a birth class or even reading literature that might help prepare us for what was to come. The idea of a doula came up. With that idea, I spent time dwelling on exactly what I would need in a doula & the type of doula I would need to help empower me through birth. I knew that what I would need was someone who would keep reminding me of not only my own inner strength (which i think a lot of doulas promote) but also the strength of God. I knew in order for me to feel I could get through birth with no interventions, I would need to be reminded of God’s role in the birth of this child! A search online led me to Mama’s Grace & that brought me to Jessica. It felt like a true sign from God as I had known Jessica from church back when I was a little girl. Our paths had been aligned again & I felt confident in pursuing Jessica as our doula. From that decision forward, I was very reassured. The midwife we used was absolutely wonderful & gave me the medical & reassuring support I needed all through pregnancy and birth but Jessica became my spiritual and mental support...which I very much needed! From providing prayers and meditations to spend time with me before birth, to the frequent check-ins to see how I was doing (especially going 16 days past my due date), to encouraging me through every transition in our actual birth, to getting dinner for us after labor once we had met our son & all the craziness had died down, to the postpartum support, she was present through it all. That postpartum fog is real and heavy and every single new mom question and fear that I brought to Jessica, was responded to quickly and with so much love. I felt as though I had an advocate, a guide & a friend along with me for my entire walk through this whole new & unknown season of life. I am forever thankful for the role that Jessica & Mama's Grace played in my entire pregnancy, birth, & postpartum journey. If you are heading into your own birth journey (no matter how it looks!) and are finding yourself unsure about any aspect of it - I would absolutely recommend for you to reach out for their services!" - K.K.
"During labor, the last thing on my mind was breathing techniques, body positions, and pain management ideas, even though I had studied them all prior to giving birth. Alyssa was a big help by feeding ideas and suggestions to my husband and I so we could focus on one thing - getting through labor and delivering our baby. The prenatal meetings prior to labor were very helpful to discuss my idea of a birth plan and to mentally and physically prepare and open our minds to life after the baby's arrival. I would recommend to anyone expecting a baby to consider having a doula by their side to take a few worries away during labor." - D.W.
"As first-time parents, my husband and I didn’t know exactly what to expect during labor and delivery. While the preparation classes at the hospital were useful, nothing compared to having Jessica as a doula we could call on at any time with specific questions and concerns as they arose. Even more importantly, working with Jessica provided us with support above and beyond what the hospital could offer, and that had a significant, positive impact on our birth experience overall. Jessica helped us mentally and emotionally prepare for a natural labor beforehand with lots of resources and personal attention at our prenatal meetings. As she helped us write a birth plan and talk through what to expect during labor, it felt very good to be able to open up to someone and get reassuring, real-life advice. Plus, Jessica knew to ask about things that I never would have thought of on my own but that ended up being very important details to plan for. Then during the birth, when circumstances didn’t allow me to stick to my birth plan, she was able to be flexible and adjust her support to fit the new situation. She provided much-needed strength and encouragement to both me and my husband during a very long labor! Finally, Jessica was available during the first weeks after delivery to answer questions I had about nursing and help me to adjust to the “new normal” of life with a newborn. Overall, working with Jessica provided a valuable element of support that made all the difference in our birth experience! I am so, so thankful that we had her calm, confident presence encouraging and guiding us along this incredible journey." - K.T. & K.T.
"Jessica was an awesome support for me and my husband during the pregnancy, labor and delivery and postpartum weeks of our first child. The labor was long (42 hours) with unexpected complications and Jessica was with us through everything with care, knowledge/skill, understanding and support. Despite the fact that the labor and delivery did not go as we had hoped and planned, we have fond and positive memories of the experience, and much credit can go to Jessica" - S.A.
"Jessica was amazing! I did not have a doula with my first baby. I've been friends with Jessica for about 3 years now and she is so full of kindness, peace, joy and love, especially for pregnant mamas and babies! When I learned that she was going to become a doula, I was ecstatic. I'd been reading about how much they can benefit being a part of the birth team. What a great decision my husband and I made. Jessica helped us with our birth plan, helped us prepare for labor and delivery and stayed in touch as we went on our pregnancy journey. When it came time to deliver my sweet E, she was such a peaceful presence. When I was on the edge and everyone else didn't know how to comfort me, Jessica was there calming me down, equipping me with ways to cope with a drug free labor and helping wherever I asked for help. I birthed E in the most peaceful way possible for a natural birth in my book. I'd use her again in a second and I'm so so glad that we decided to go with Jessica for our doula. I hope you will consider working with her, she is such a blessing!" - S.R.
